People who abruptly stop alcohol may experience formication along with the visual hallucinations of seeing bugs.

Crawling Sensation, Real Condition or Hallucination?

Crawling sensation is the feeling of small insects creeping across or under the skin. Also identified as ‘formication,’ this condition usually has no physical clue and can drive people crazy due to the itchiness and bothersome sensation that may distract them from focusing on particular tasks.

Demodex Mites May Cause Crawling Sensation

Demodex is a mite that has lived as an ectoparasite on mammalian skin for a long time. Two species of these microscopic mites can only live on human skin. They are present on most people’s skins in small numbers: Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis.

Reasons such as weak immunity, underlying conditions such as infection, other skin issues, etc., can cause these mites to increase too much. However, if their number exceeds 5 per square centimetre of skin, they are more likely to trigger or exacerbate skin issues.

Demodex mites crawl on the skin with their eight short legs. So, the crawling sensation is one of the signs of the widespread clinical demonstrations of Demodex. This feeling is more common at night.

I realise that I have had rosacea all my life. I am 73. It makes me angry to feel that all the money I have spent on creams etc over the years has been a waste. And I have been feeding the mites for years with expensive moisturiser’s. I now fully understand about demodex. But no one else is really interested. They think I am mad..

I have been using procutin. Now for six weeks. I am seeing some improvement in my skin but I still have white crusts along my eye lids. They are very hard and I can’t remove them.
Is there anything I can loosen them with.?
Ideally I want them cleaned away.

Thanks Ann for your comment. I think you should give more time to obtain the result. If those white crusts are related to blepharitis it can take 9 months to be removed. So please keep on using Procutin.
